Brown keen to face friendly foe

JASON BROWN: treatment for thigh problem

GILLINGHAM goalkeeper Jason Brown is suffering from a bad thigh strain but has a particular reason for wanting to get into the starting line-up against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Brown wants to face his close friend and former Gills team-mate Marlon King who recently joined the East Midlands club for a knock-down price.

Gillingham's first team coach Wayne Jones said: "Jason has this strain which was probably made worse by playing (against Preston) and we'll have to see in the next 48 hours if it settles down."

Meanwhile, Gillingham are stepping up their hunt for the player manager Andy Hessenthaler describes as the “fox-in-the-box” needed to sharpen the attack.

The urgency to reinforce a goal-shy attack that has managed 28 in 23 league games this season increased with Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat by Preston.

Chairman Paul Scally disclosed that the club had an offer rejected for a player last week and are pursuing other options. He has also been to Spain to speak with a player’s agent.

“Hopefully, we will have some positive news about a striker shortly,” he said.
