Scunthorpe United have handed former Gills striker Deon Burton a one-year contract.
Burton, 36, was left without a club after Gillingham decided against offering him a contract.
He helped the Gills to the League 2 title last season, scoring nine goals in 40 league appearances.
Scunthorpe moved in quickly once the Gills indicated they were not going to offer Burton a deal, instead opting to sign former Northampton striker Adebayo Akinfenwa.
Burton scored against Frickley Athletic and Grimsby Town in recent days, after joining Brian Laws’ League 2 side on trial.
