Swindon Town 1 Gillingham 0

DARREN BYFIELD saw red for Gillingham as they slumped to a one goal defeat at Swindon.

The Robins goal came on 27 minutes when Lee Peacock flicked the ball through to Jamie Cureton and the striker calmly placed the ball past Jason Brown, to score what turned out to be the winning goal.

Gillingham hardly threatened the Swindon goal throughout the match and can have no grumbles at the result, with Byfield's sending-off doing nothing to help their cause.

Gills keeper Brown was fortunate not to have been shown red in the first half, when he handled outside the area with Ricky Shakes chasing the ball, which saw him get off with a booking.

Gillingham failed to trouble keeper Rhys Evans throughout the half, with Tommy Black's blocked effort the best of a poor opening from the visitors.

The second half began in the worst possible fashion for Gillingham as Byfield was handed a straight red after bundling over keeper Rhys Evans.

Things didn't get much better, with their defence being opened up on numerous occasions, though Swindon somehow entered the closing stages with only a one goal lead.

Gillingham looked to snatch an equaliser late on, as they finally showed some fighting spirit but it wasn't to be their day, with Swindon deservedly hanging on for maximum points.
