GILLS new boy Adam Bygrave says he appreciates being at Gillingham and having the chance to make a name for himself.
Bygrave made his Gills debut against Hartlepool on Saturday after completing a loan move from Reading.
The 18-year-old defender said: “It’s amazing that I’m here.
“It’s a great opportunity for me. League football is everybody’s dream and I’m living the dream.
“I’ve come to improve and I’m sure the gaffer down there will see me improve. I can prove to Steve Coppell that I can play at this level and show to everyone that I’m good enough.
“This isn’t a step backwards because this is League football. You’re playing for three points and the manager’s jobs on the line and your jobs on the line. This is a step forward if anything.”
Bygrave has impressed for Reading reserves but admits the step up into the Premiership remains a big bridge to hurdle.
“It’s a tough, tough league,” he said. ““I’ve learned a lot from the players at Reading. The likes of Ibrahima Sonko, Ivar Ingimarsson and playing against top strikers like Kevin Doyle and Leroy Lita - that always improves you every day.
“In terms of getting into the first team I haven’t got enough experience. I’ve got the potential to be good enough to get there but the experience, time and age is not on my side.”
