Shane Byrne beat title rival Alex Lowes in a photo finish at Silverstone on Sunday to secure a one-point lead going into the final round of the British Superbike Championship.

Honda man Lowes pipped Sittingbourne rider Byrne by less than a tenth of a second in a thrilling opening race that saw the pair neck and neck throughout.

Lowes looked set to make it a double in race two as he led going into the final lap after another superb battle between the pair.

He defended hard but when they exited the last turn side-by-side, Byrne pinched victory by a 0.012sec in a photo finish on his Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki.

Defending champion Byrne said: "I was desperate to win a race again as it had been a while since we last did it. A great race like that is what we love."

Byrne leads Lowes 604-603, with the title to be decided at Brands Hatch on October 20.
