Shane Byrne crashed out of the opening race of the British Superbike Championship meeting at Brands Hatch on Sunday but battled back in style.

Byrne’s seven-race winning streak at his home circuit ended when he lost the front end of his Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki when challenging Josh Brookes for the lead in the closing laps.

Champion Shakey walked away unhurt and held off James Ellison and Alex Lowes to win the second race.

The Sittingbourne rider, who leads Lowes by 21 points in the championship, said: “I made a mess of the bike and the team did a fantastic job to get it all back together for race two.

“I got a good start in the second one and I wanted to win that race for the team.”

Round seven of the championship is at Oulton Park on August 11.
