Wigan Athletic 3 – 0 Charlton Athletic
CHARLTON undid the good work from their victory over Sunderland with a heavy defeat at the hands of Premiership new boys Wigan at the JJB Stadium.
The home side took the lead after just eight minutes when Henri Camara was in the right place to drill the ball into the net after Lee McCulloch’s first effort had cannoned back off the crossbar.
Charlton almost levelled after 28 minutes, but home keeper Mike Pollitt got down well to block a stinging drive from Darren Bent, who was troubling the Wigan defence with his pace.
The game’s second goal was always going to be vital and it was Wigan who got it six minutes into the second half when Camara was in the right place again to turn in strike partner Jason Roberts’ knock-down.
And Camara’s third goal after 63 minutes put the result beyond doubt. The Addicks missed several chances to clear their lines before the Senegal forward was allowed to nip in and notch his hat-trick.
Wigan had lost their five matches before this one but Charlton have now taken only three points from their last 21 in the league.
