Brentford 2 Gillingham 2

TWO goals from skipper Mike Flynn rescued a point for Gillingham at 10-man Brentford in League 1 on Saturday.

The game sprung into life midway through the first half when striker Gary Mulligan was brought down by Brentford keeper Clark Masters when clean through.

A penalty was given and Masters received his marching orders for the professional foul before Flynn kept his cool to beat substitute midfielder John Mousinho from the spot.

But the 10 men of Brentford rallied and were level on 36 minutes when captain Matt Heywood was left unmarked at the far post to head home Gavin Tomlin's cross.

Flynn thought he had put the visitors back in front five minutes before the break, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

The home side went ahead on the stroke of half-time when more poor Gills defending allowed substitute Calum Willock to turn in Olafur Ingi Skulason's pass.

But Flynn earned the visitors a point when he finished nicely after the ball had ricocheted into his path in the 74th minute.

Gillingham: Flinders, Jupp, Cox, Johnson, Jackman, Spiller (McDonald 60), Crofts, Flynn, Easton, Ndumbu-Nsungu, Mulligan.
Subs: Howell, Clohessy, Stone, Savage.
