'Cautious' Kent tell fans not to panic over St Lawrence delay

Development work will now not start until October

Kent County Cricket Club chairman George Kennedy has reassured supporters the redevelopment of the St Lawrence Ground is still on track.

Speaking during Cricket Week at the ground, he explained delaying the start of construction on the £10million project in Canterbury, is a cautious move by the club in the current economic climate.

"We would be under pressure to reduce prices if we renegotiated terms now, I don't see any point in doing that," said Mr Kennedy.

Work was due to begin in May this year, but will now start after the current season has finished in October.

However, Mr Kennedy says this will not make too much difference in the long-term. "Ground development will go ahead - but it might be piece meal now, rather than in one go," he added.

"This season is now clear and what we need to do now is concentrate on winning matches."
