KENT'S Naomi Cavaday came within a whisker of beating former champion Martina Hingis in the first round at Wimbledon on Monday.
Cavaday, 18, from Bromley, had two match points against the 1997 ladies singles champion but failed to convert either and ended up losing 7-6 5-7 0-6.
The British teenager won the first set on a tie break against the ninth seed and took a 5-4 lead in the second set, only for Hingis to fight back to win it 7-5.
The missed opportunities seemed to take the fight out of Cavaday and she did not win a game in the final set.
