GILLINGHAM chairman Paul Scally believes the club have learned their lessons and are ready for Championship football again.
The playing budget was increased this season in a bid to escape from League 1 and all the signs are pointing towards a competitive Gills side this season.
Mr Scally said: "This club operates well in the Championship and we wouldn't be scared or fazed by going back into it – we could more than hold our own.
"We're right on our budget now and we'll continue to bring players in if we can afford to do so.
"There's a massive air of optimism throughout the whole business. It's an exciting time at the club and it's got the feeling of a promotion season."
