CHARLTON plc chairman Richard Murray has admitted feeling frustrated that the club have not brought in more players so far this summer.
When the Addicks signed England under-21 international Darren Bent at the start of June for £3m, Mr Murray said he was hoping to recruit one player a week for the next month.
But, at the start of this week, there had been no further new faces, despite a number of players being linked with moves to The Valley.
Mr Murray said: "I did say publicly that Alan (Curbishley) wants to add at least five players, of which Darren Bent was the first.
"We are talking to a number of parties but the trouble is that it’s not an exclusive process and the players we are going for are also interesting other clubs. That means players are taking just a little more time deciding where they want to end up.
"We want to get five players in and Alan wants them in as soon as possible."
Charlton have given Curbishley half of the £5.5m raised by a share issue to add to his transfer funds. Mr Murray says he is now looking forward to the end of the month when most contracts expire.
"I think the main reason why it’s quiet at the moment is that, unlike Alan, most of the managers are away on holiday," he said.
"Normally, it hots up towards the end of June and there are a few players that we are after where their current clubs have said 'if we can get who we want in then you can have them, but not until'. So there could be a domino effect in some ways."
The future of long-term Addicks target Bernardo Corradi, who Curbishley admitted an interest in last month, remains unclear, although his agent Moreno Roggi says the player will definitely be leaving Valencia.
Newcastle’s England under-21 midfielder Darren Ambrose is being linked with a switch to the Addicks, along with Inter Milan defender Gonzalo Sorondo.
Two players who could be heading for the exit door at The Valley are midfielder Jason Euell and defender Paul Konchesky.
Euell, who spent most of last season on the substitutes’ bench, has said he will probably have to leave the club in order to get first team football.
Konchesky, who only made 15 starts last season despite coming off the transfer list in February, continues to be linked with a move north of the border to Celtic.
