Gills interim boss Peter Taylor insists he’ll be treating Charlie Allen just like everyone else.

Twenty-one-year-old Allen joined the Gills at the start of last season after being signed by his father, Martin Allen.

Charlie Allen finds himself in the same situation he did in February 2012, while at Notts County. He was on their books when his father Martin was sacked there.

At County, Allen junior was frozen out and didn’t play again, under Keith Curle.

He was one of 12 players released at the end of the season, along with current Gills keeper Stuart Nelson.

But Taylor said: “I had a good chat with him on the training ground on Thursday as we finished and I think he appreciated my honesty with him. I told him I wouldn’t treat him any differently to any other player here.

“If he is good enough, he will play and if he is not good enough he will be sub, or he won’t play.

“What I promised him is that he will be treated exactly the same.

“He had a bit of a bad experience at Notts County but that’s certainly not my style.”

The Gills play Notts County at Priestfield on Tuesday night.
