Charlton girls contribute to England triumph

TWO of Charlton’s women’s team helped England begin their European Championship campaign in dramatic fashion on Sunday night with a last-minute 3-2 win against Finland at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Katie Chapman started the game and Eniola Aluko was a late substitute as the home country eased into a 2-0 half-time lead, but the Finns equalised with just minutes remaining.

By that time Aluko had been introduced and had two great chances to seal the win only to be denied by the Finnish goalkeeper. Another effort from the 18-year-old was saved with one minute of injury time played but this time Karen Carney put the loose ball into the back of the net.

England also take on Denmark at Ewood Park on Wednesday night and conclude their group games against Sweden on Saturday.
