CHARLTON have won fulsome praise from the chairman of the Football Supporters’ Federation over their competitive ticket pricing.

In the week the club launched their £99 season ticket for under-11s, Dr Malcolm Clarke described Charlton as a shining example to the rest of the Premiership.

Adult prices for Valley season tickets start at £275 while under-11s can watch all 19 home League games for £99.

"All power to Charlton," said Dr Clarke. "They have bucked the trend of greed in the Premier League by reducing season ticket costs.

"They have also been one of the few clubs to show a progressive attitude on community issues and a recognition that they have to build for the long term.

"I remain to be convinced that many Premiership clubs will follow them. There are a lot of disaffected fans out there who believe clubs take their support for granted.

"This becomes visible with the swathes of empty seats inside Premier grounds."

Top price season tickets at Arsenal’s new Emirates Stadium cost a staggering £1,825 with the cheapest priced at £885.

Charlton plc chairman Richard Murray, who with head coach Iain Dowie launched the £99 season ticket in an 'Italian Job' style mini stunt at County Hall, Maidstone, echoed Dr Clarke’s sentiments.

Mr Murray said: "The average fan is being priced out of watching Premiership football. You wonder how a family of four can go to football.

"It is more important to attract young fans than boost gate receipts. That is why we made the £99 gesture."
