Grant Basey has joined fellow Kent youngsters Scott Wagstaff and Chris Solly in signing a two-year contract with Charlton.

The 19-year-old left-back from Chislehurst, made his first team debut in the 1-0 home defeat by Queens Park Rangers on October 27 and went on to make seven starts before injury curtailed his season.

Manager Alan Pardew: "I’ve not signed Grant to be a squad player. He faces a big season, so the ball is in his court now.

"He's a fantastic technical player but there are parts of his game that he needs to work on, such as his speed of turn and his defensive positional play.

"He lost his way a little bit when he came out of the first team but he's rediscovered his best form recently. What he needs now is experience to play in the Championship."

Pardew confirmed that talks over new contracts were continuing with Kelly Youga, Ben Thatcher and Chris Powell but injury-plagued United States international Cory Gibbs had been released.
