Chatham ended their season with a seven-game winning streak on Saturday - completing a challenge set by their boss Kevin Hake.

Hake knew his side needed to pick up their form back in the middle of last month when a goalless draw at home to Haywards Heath was followed up by a 1-0 midweek defeat at high-flyers Whitehawk.

Hake’s men responded. Assistant manager Danny Kedwell was returned to the side to add some extra experience on the pitch and he scored the opening goal as Chats beat Chichester City 4-2 away.

They went onto win their next six, ending with Saturday’s 4-1 victory at Littlehampton, having sewn up the title the week before with home success over Cray Valley.

Goals from Ashley Nzala, Dan Bradshaw, Paris Lock and Che Krabbendam ensured it was a winning end to the season for the champions.

Hake said: “Our good form leading up to Saturday’s game meant we didn’t really have much to play for except personal pride.

“I set a target after the loss at Whitehawk to go and win seven games and full credit must go to all the lads for achieving it.

“They have been unbelievable all season and Saturday was no exception in beating a tough Littlehampton team 4-1.”

Chatham went into the game off the back of last Tuesday’s Kent Cup semi-final win over Welling United, setting up a final against Isthmian Premier side Margate at Priestfield on Wednesday night (May 3).

With that game on the horizon and the league title in the bag, Hake made full use of his squad for their weekend trip.

Captain Jack Evans was rested on Saturday, along with Kedwell, while Jordy Robins and Reece Butler were left on the bench.

Hake added: “It was nice to see all the squad getting involved and putting in a great performance.

“It’s now given me a real headache when we look to select the cup final squad which is a good thing.”

Chatham’s Kent Senior Cup final against Margate is a 7.45pm kick off at Priestfield. Tickets can be purchased online through the club’s website at a cost of £10 for adults and £5 concessions.
