Chatham Town hope to progress in the FA Cup against Sussex League Division 1 side East Preston

Chatham are back in FA Cup action this weekend when they host East Preston in the first round qualifying.

The visitors are unbeaten at the top of Sussex League Division 1 but there’s no questions the Chats start as favourites.

“It’s a very good chance to progress,” Levett said. “It’s all about us and whether we can cut out some of the mistakes we’ve been making. I fancy us against them.

“They’re not a bad side and we’ll certainly give them respect, because they’re top of their league.”

Chatham will need to cut out some of the errors which led them to defeat on Tuesday night against 10-man league leaders VCD Athletic.

The home side had Lee Craig sent off for deliberate handball with 20 minutes remaining and Andy Constable converted his second penalty of the evening to make it 2-2.

But the Chats failed to make their numerical advantage count.

They were left to rue missed opportunities and were wastefulness in possession. Substitute Ola Rabiu scored in the dying seconds to preserve VCD’s 100% record in Ryman League Division 1 North.

Levett said: “To concede in the 90th minute was absolutely sickening. The minimum we deserved was a draw and we should have won it.”
