Australian fast bowler Stuart Clark has not given up hope of playing for Kent this season.
Clark was expected to join Kent for six weeks at the start of the summer, but the move was scuppered by his surprise call-up on Saturday to Australia's tour of South Africa.
There is still the possibility he could join Kent after Australia's one-day series against Pakistan in the UAE, but his deal with the county was due to end on May 31 which would mean he would only play a few matches.
He told Cricinfo: "I'm not quite sure what will happen with Kent.
"I was prepared to fly there in the next week. I would still like to play there, but I have to be realistic. They might be looking for someone to play for the whole season.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it after I get back from Dubai."
Kent chief executive Paul Millman said the county was assessing their options and would endeavour to have alternative arrangements in place as soon as possible.
