There was more success for the county’s tennis youngsters last weekend.
The 14 and under boys were County Cup winners while the girls finished runners-up. Players in action for Kent came from Canterbury, Bearsted, Sevenoaks, Blackheath and Bromley.
Both teams started in identical fashion, by beating Sussex 5-1. The boys followed this up by beating Essex by the same score.
Victory over Essex was closer than the scoreline suggests, as the Kent boys took three, third-set wins in this match.
The girls comprehensively beat Hampshire and IOW 6-0 to join the boys in a last-day showdown with Middlesex for a regional win.
Both teams battled incredibly well and were so close to winning both matches.However Middlesex Girls edged three, third-set wins themselves to clinch the match 4-2.
At The Weald LTC in Sussex, the Kent boys took an unassailable lead, winning all four singles, including another three-set win. They ended with a 4-2 win as both doubles were played out for fun.
This success follows Kent’s win over Middlesex the previous weekend in the 12 and under competition.
The boys’ team comprised of Ben Gusic-Wan, Isaac Forde, Kobi Smith, Dimitar Lalov, Eric Ndreu and Luke Ogden while the girls were Lois Newberry, Eloise Newberry, Daisy Rowland, Chloe Cleaver, Anastasia Alexandrovich and Annis Frimpong.
