FANS' favourite Chris Powell is back at The Valley having rejoined Charlton for a second time, as a coach.
The 37-year-old Professional Footballers' Association chairman was back at the training ground on Tuesday to assist with pre-season preparation following his release by Watford on a free transfer.
Powell, who enjoys folk-hero status with Addicks fans, will be welcomed back with open arms by supporters and players alike.
"I'm delighted Chris has returned to Charlton for all manner of reasons," said manager Alan Pardew, who first took him away from The Valley in 2004 while in charge at West Ham.
"I'm not giving him a title but he will be a welcome addition to the coaching staff. He has a wealth of experience which we, as a club, can tap into."
And Pardew did not rule out a playing return for the left-back.
"If, for whatever reason, Ben Thatcher was unable to play, then I would not hesitate in bringing Chris into the side."
Charlton fans had hoped former manager Iain Dowie would appoint Powell to his coaching team when he took charge in May last year. But he was allowed to leave and join Watford.
On his return with Watford in October, he received a standing ovation, demonstrating his affection for the club by wearing a Charlton shirt over his Watford strip.
Pardew has continued restructuring his backroom staff with the appointment of former West Ham sports scientist Niall Clark to replace Nick Davies, who has moved to Upton Park.
