CHARLTON head coach Iain Dowie has completed his ninth signing since arriving at the club by capturing Uruguay international midfielder Omar Pouso.

Pouso, who scored a sensational 35-yard volley against England in a friendly last March, has signed on a season-long loan from Uruguayan side Penarol with a view to a permanent move.

Dowie said: "I’m delighted to have secured Omar. He’s a combative player, gets goals and his delivery is good. He’s got good ability, he’s a good age, he brings athleticism and creativity to the team, but he also has plenty of aggression."

Under the terms of the deal, Charlton will pay Penarol £337,000 now and retain the option to buy the 26-year-old for up to £1.5m after 12 months.

Elsewhere, Jason Euell completed his move to Middlesbrough in a deal that could be worth up to £300,000 and goalkeeper Stephan Andersen joined Leeds United on loan for the season. Simon Walton’s loan at Ipswich Town has been extended until January.
