Combe made to work hard for victory

Nuneaton 28 Westcombe Park 39

WESTCOMBE Park pushed Nuneaton another step closer to relegation from National League 2 following their 39-28 win.

Combe made hard work of it, despite a fantastic start, when they ran in 19 points in the opening 12 minutes of the match.

Nuneaton hit back though and it wasn’t until the final stage of the match when they turned the screw on the division’s strugglers.

A try from Sam Naden put Combe ahead and soon afterwards Ian Hardcastle went over to extend the lead.

A third try from centre Graham Purdy and James Whittingham’s second conversion put Combe 19-0 ahead.

Nuneaton rallied back and by half-time were 20-19 ahead.

A try from Aaron Jakarangi put Halifax further infront and a penalty each left the scores at 22-28.

Whittingham got Combe going again with a penalty and tries late on from captain Thomas Hayman and another from Naden sealed the win.
