AND so the rollercoaster of highs and lows continues under Stan Ternent.

Since Stan took over we have alternated between good performances and indifferent ones. And, after beating Plymouth the previous weekend, we were due the latter.

The first half at Leicester on Saturday was more than indifferent. To be fair, it was awful.

Yes, we weren't helped by a referee who would have sent Plymouth's website into meltdown, but it doesn't excuse the fact that we just didn't turn up in the first 45 minutes.

Again, the midfield as a unit was poor as we were torn to shreds time and time again down the flanks and did very well to get to half-time just the two goals behind.

It wasn't helped by the fact that Nyron Nosworthy, back after missing the previous three games with an injury, was having an absolute nightmare at right back.

I want to say that it was all down to his clear lack of fitness, but I've been having concerns about him for a few weeks now.

From being our ever-dependable talent at the back, Nyron is playing like a man with his mind elsewhere.

With his contract up at the end of the season and him saying 18 months ago that he would be leaving, the cynic in me is worried that he is already thinking of moving to pastures new.

I do hope I'm wrong, as we need him firing on all cylinders for the rest of the campaign.

The second half on Saturday was better (although it really couldn't have been a lot worse), but we've got to stop this inconsistency if we want to avoid the dreaded drop.

If we can get a good run of wins under our belts now, then the nightmare run-in, which sees our last two games against fellow strugglers Cardiff and Forest, will only be a problem for them.

A last day "winner stays up" clash at the City Ground would almost be as bad as going there already relegated.

No game this weekend because of the FA Cup so the players can recharge their batteries.

And with any luck, Stan will finally be able to bring in some new faces to give us a boost ahead of quite possibly the biggest 16 matches in the history of Gillingham FC.
