Andy Pugh has returned to Blue Square Premier side Grays for the rest of the season.
Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has assured the young striker that his time at the club is not over though and will be offering him a new deal in the summer.
Stimson agreed to let Pugh return to Grays, where he played 11 games and scored four goals during a recent loan spell, under the proviso that he could be recalled at short notice.
The Gills boss said: “He came back but Grays drove me mad, begged me, everything they could to take him again because he did so well for them and he scored the winning goal last Saturday.
“We’ve let him go back there and we’ve got a 24-hour call-back now.
“He doesn’t need to worry about next season, that will be taken care of and he will be offered a deal here.”
Stimson has invited Charlton right-back Sam Long back in the summer for pre-season training after playing him in the last two reserve matches.
Long is out of contract at the end of the season and Charlton are unlikely to offer him a new deal.
“We’ll probably have a look at him in pre-season,” said Stimson.
“It’s one we’ll monitor from now until then and invite him back down. He seemed quite interested in doing that.
“He can come in for two or three weeks and we can have a good look at him because he looks like he might have something we’re looking for.”
Also featuring in this week’s reserve match against Lewes was Crystal Palace youngster Ryan Carolan and he’s another one Stimson was impressed with.
“The lad looks good,” said the Gills boss.
“He’s central midfield, left footed only young and he showed something so we’ll have another look.”
Hungarian goalkeeper David Grof, who played in goal against Lewes, has returned to his native country and Gillingham won’t be pursuing their interest in him.
Blue Square Premier side Lewes, who became one of the country’s first teams to be relegated this season, have taken youth team midfielder Luke Rooney on work experience.
He is the leading scorer with the youth team, with 12 goals, and is in the second year of his scholarship.
