Cooper's delight at midfield dominance

Gillingham 1 - 0 Bournemouth

GILLINGHAM boss Neale Cooper praised his midfield for laying the foundations of their second win at Priestfield this season.

Michael Flynn may try to claim the only goal after his 39th-minute free-kick deflected in off former Gills midfielder Marcus Browning.

But his efforts, alongside Alan Pouton, Andy Hessenthaler and Andrew Crofts, ensured the Gills carved out numerous scoring chances.

Cooper said: "The tempo was set by the midfield getting tight amongst them (Bournemouth). We knew they’d be an attacking team and they like to pass the ball.

"But saying that, we should have had the game dead and buried in the first half with the chances we had."

Cooper, whose side now lie fourth in League 1 and are still unbeaten, also praised his new strike pair of Matt Jarvis and non-contract signing Steve Claridge.

He said: "I thought Steve was excellent with his experience and the way he held the ball up for us.

"He helped Matty Jarvis who I thought was magic up front."
