There was LTA County Cup success for Kent tennis youngsters last weekend.
Both the boys and girls 12 and under teams were back in competitive action, in Bromley and Frinton, as the LTA County Cup summer competition got under way. Both teams were forced to dig deep as they faced stiff opposition.
The boys were captained by Dominic Cobby (Sevenoaks) and assisted by Canterbury’s Will Carnegie and were in a group that featured Berkshire, Essex and Middlesex.
They were regional competition winners after beating Berkshire 5-1, Essex 6-0 and Middlesex 4-2.
The winning the team comprised of Matt McLain, Tommy Cuomo, Nate de Mariveles, Alex Mirrington, Herbie Smith and Conrad Brown.
Sarah Wray (Sevenoaks & Dukes Meadow) captained the girls and was assisted by Chloe Ayling (Kings Hill Community Tennis). The girls made a strong start by beating Sussex 6-0, lost a tight match with Essex 4-2, with an 8-10 loss in the first pair doubles that could have seen them into a shootout. They then went onto lose to Middlesex who were the eventual winners.
The girls team were Nikita Phillips, Charlotte Spratling, Rozellah Nkeruwem, Jessica Lazarean, Bella Thomson and Ruby Marriage.
Both teams competed hard and were a credit to the county and their captains who have worked hard with them in a limited number of county training sessions.
