THE Forester Kent League Premier Division Clubs have voted to return to one day cricket after a four year experiment with a two day format.

At a meeting of all Premier teams held at the Hartley Country Club near Dartford the management committee accepted the unanimous vote by the clubs to return to a 55-over-a-side competition from next season.

The decision to abolish the format of playing one innings per side on consecutive Saturdays, an idea borrowed from Australia, will please a number of players who had criticised the structure for producing less enjoyable cricket.

By retaining at least a 110 over game the Kent League will remain an accredited premier league with the ECB, but individual clubs will no longer receive the £2,000 a year grant from the governing body to improve their pitches and facilities. The level of funding they will get next summer is still unclear.

The switch away from one day cricket in Kent was part a long-term plan by the ECB to create a nationwide network of premier leagues which would feed young players to the professional county sides enabling them to reduce their wage bills by possibly dropping their second XI sides.
