KENT Academy cricket progidy Sam Northeast is one of 10 nominations for the BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

The 17-year-old from Walmer, near Deal, scored 62 on his Kent 2nd XI debut and an unbeaten 62 against the 2006 Sri Lankans for Sir Paul Getty’s XI.

The 10 nominations will be whittled down to a shortlist of three, to be announced during the BBC’s Blue Peter programme on Tuesday, December 5.

Northeast has already been signed up on a Kent development contract that takes him through to his 21st birthday.
