Cricket training for girls of all ages

THE Kent Cricket Board is holding training for girls of primary and secondary school age who are keen to play the game at club or county level.

The session for primary girls will use soft balls and Kwik Cricket equipment. The session for secondary girls will involve the use of both soft and hard balls.

Previous experience is not essential and all equipment will be provided. The training will take place at Sutton Valence School near Maidstone.

David Sear, Kent Cricket Development Officer, said: "These are not strictly trials but more of a chance to play indoor cricket for four hours. There are many more opportunities for girls to play cricket nowadays, and girls who show potential will be invited to join county squads.

"The route to the top can also be amazingly quick. Our own Lydia Greenway, who played her first test match in 2003 for England at the age of 18, has highlighted this.

He added: "Girls have a better chance of playing cricket for Kent and England compared with boys!"

The primary school day will be on Sunday, February 8, and the secondary day on Sunday, February 15, both from 9am-1pm.
