KENT veterans will be bidding to win the national over-50s cricket title for the third time when they meet Sussex in the final at Bromley on Sunday (12 noon start).
They gained a comfortable 38-run victory over Cheshire in the semi-final at Neston.
Batting first on a slow wicket, Kent totalled 181 for six in their 45 overs with Jimmy Howgego (59) and Keith Wooding (55) sharing in an opening stand of 124.
Cheshire were dismissed for 143, being pegged back by tight bowling from Colin Breed (three for 20), John Wakeman (three for 22) and former Surrey 2nd X1 left-arm spinner Chris Mendham (one for 12 in eight overs).
Kent have already beaten Sussex, who defeated Wales in the semi-final, in the group stages of the competition. They won the competition in 1989 and 1991 when former Kent and England opener Brian Luckhurst was in the side.
Kent will select from the following 12 on Sunday: Chris Swadkin (captain, Blackheath), Wooding (Gravesend), Howgego (Ashford), Chris Jobling (Dartford), Wakeman (Shipbourne), Dennis Chambers (Catford Cyphers), Mike Thorndycraft (Staplehurst), Mendham (Downham & Bellingham), Breed (Staplehurst), Richard Wilson (HSBC), Roy Downey (Folkestone), John Hornsby (Sevenoaks Vine).
Kent over-50s 2nds are also through to the A team championship final. They meet Hertfordshire at Three Bridges, Sussex, on Sunday, September 19.
