Gillingham captain Andrew Crofts is determined to make the most of his side’s outside chance of survival when they head to Leeds on Saturday.
Crofts admitted he thought it was all over after Swindon levelled with a late equaliser last weekend but, with results going their way later in the day, the Gills are still hanging in there.
“Luckily we’re still in with a shout,” said the 23-year-old. “It was disappointing not to take three points against Swindon after being so close and it was gutting at the end.
“It was frustrating but one point was better than nothing.”
He added: “After the Swindon result we thought maybe it was going to be over, but the results meant we’ve been given an extra chance and it meant we were able to get over the disappointment of Saturday a lot quicker.
“With Oldham scoring late on, we feel that maybe it’s meant to be. We could have been down but we’ve been given an extra chance and hopefully the other teams will slip up.”
Crofts is feeling confident ahead of Saturday’s trip to face a side aiming to reclaim their place in the Championship.
“It’s going to be tough but we’ll be positive,” he said.
“We’ve got to take the game to them and we have to win to stand any chance. We’ll be going into the match in a positive frame of mind."
