Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish is hoping the FA Cup will provide a nice distraction from his side’s league woes as they take on Woking in the fourth qualifying round at Kingfield on Saturday.

The Fleet, who have suffered four straight league defeats and slipped to 16th in the Blue Square Premier, will be looking to reach the first round proper for the first time since 2003.

Daish said: “It’s a great competition to play in and hopefully that’ll be enough inspiration for the players to get back to winning ways.

“We need to go there and try to win. Whether it is the Kent Senior Cup, the FA Trophy or the FA Cup, we have to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

“It is down to how the players react and I’ll learn a lot about them.”

On-loan striker Gary Bowes could be given a place in the starting line-up after coming on as a second-half substitute in the Fleet’s 2-0 defeat against Torquay on Saturday.

The 19-year-old has signed on a one-month loan from Millwall and has been given permission to play in the FA Cup.

Daish added: “I felt I needed to bring in someone who might give me a little spark in there. I didn’t expect to bring him on at half-time against Torquay.”

Sacha Opinel will miss the Woking game through suspension after picking up a fifth yellow card.
