Curbishley happy at The Valley

CURBISHLEY: "I'm quite happy at the club and I just want us to do well"

CHARLTON boss Alan Curbishley says he did not consider applying for the Tottenham manager's job.

Martin Jol was appointed on Monday but rumours linking Curbishley, whose home is two miles from Spurs' training ground, surfaced after Jacques Santini's shock decision to resign on the eve of Saturday's clash between the two clubs.

But Curbishley, who was also linked with the Liverpool job after the sacking of Gerard Houllier in the summer, signed a new contract at The Valley at the end of last year and he intends to honour it.

He said: "I signed a new contract last Christmas and I've got two and a half years left and I'm happy at Charlton. That's it. I've been involved in lots of speculation before and it's never lead to anything so I don't take too much notice of it."

He admitted to being down last week after the club's defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup and the loss of Charlton's unbeaten home record to Middlesbrough. He was also jeered by some sections of the club's support after the Middlesbrough game.

"Nobody likes being booed off after a game, no matter how long you've been at a club it's not nice. But I'm quite realistic because in some respects we deserved it. We haven't played well, though I didn't think the stick would be coming that soon after what we've achieved at the club.

"Every year we punch above our weight and last season the expectation level went out of the window. We have to be more realistic.

"I spoke to David Jones, who has just left Wolves, and I was surprised when he told me he had been there for four years. He mentioned that another manager had said to him that perhaps four years is a long time at one club.

"I've been at Charlton 14 years, so I suppose people can read into that what they want. I'm quite happy at the club and I just want us to do well."
