Curbs hopes for the comfort of home

CURBISHLEY: "We have to take the majority of points at home"

Charlton v Tottenham

CHARLTON entertain London rivals Tottenham tonight in the first of two successive home games in four days with manager Alan Curbishley confessing the club face a big week if dreams of European football are to become reality next season.

The eighth-placed Addicks follow up tonight's match with a visit from relegation-haunted West Bromwich Albion on Saturday with Curbishley looking for his men to maximise the six home games of the remaining 10 fixtures.

He said: "It's gone unnoticed that we're there in the frame. People talk about how well Spurs have done and how well Bolton, Everton and Middlesbrough are doing.

"But we haven't been out of the top 12 all season. If we can do a little bit better than in previous years, then we might have a bit in the locker. What we have to do is take the majority of points at home."

He added: "We've just come off the back of three really tough away games, drawing at Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Fulham, is not bad. But we were in great positions in all three games to take maximum points.

"So if we can end up winning the next two at home, that will be a massive boost. I know that Tottenham, like ourselves, are looking to Europe while West Brom are desperate points, so it willl be extremely tough."

Charlton have a reputation of falling away in the final stages of a season but Curbishley believes the squad have the staying power to hang on this time.

He said: "What's different this season is that we have a fully fit squad. During previous run-ins we've been hit by the absence of key players. This is the only year that we've been able to keep everyone fit, so we'll see if that makes a difference."
