GILLINGHAM midfielder Mark Saunders is expected to announce whether he is staying or leaving when the club return from pre-season training in France at the weekend.
Saunders, 31 next month, agreed a new contract but has been unable to sign it because of what has been described as a “hitch".
Saunders, married with a baby son, has told friends he wants his future resolved on his return from France. If not, he will consider his options with Oxford and former club Plymouth closely watching developments.
Player-manager Andy Hessenthaler has made it clear he wants to retain the versatile Saunders who has played in all outfield positions for the club since arriving from Plymouth in March, 1998.
