PLAYER-MANAGER Neil Smith has threatened to shuffle his Welling squad after they suffered their third defeat in five games on Monday.
The Wings followed up the 1-1 home draw with Dorchester by going down 2-0 at Thurrock, who collected their first win of the season.
Smith, who took over in the summer, was clearly not impressed with many of his players.
"It wasn’t good enough," he fumed. "I’m looking at the squad and maybe it isn’t strong enough, maybe I need to go out and bring players in. I need winners here and I haven’t seen enough of them so far.
"We’ve given them five games and I envisaged winning more than we have lost at this stage of the season.
"I’m going to try my hardest to bring players in this week. If someone says that was good enough then they are lying to themselves.
"Some players need to look at themselves this week and hold their hands up."
Smith, who praised the club’s away support, also warned his squad that they need to compete first and win the right to play.
"I deal in pride and I wasn’t proud of anyone," Smith added. "Only Tony Sinclair and Chris Moore came out with any credit for me as they never gave up.
"No disrespect to Thurrock but we should be beating these teams - they wanted it more than us. At any standard of football you can’t just turn up and expect to win – you have to earn the right.
"The supporters were fantastic again and at any other club they probably would have booed us off – and they would have had a right to."
