GILLINGHAM defender Brent Sancho's loan move to League 1 rivals Swansea City has been called off.

The 28-year-old had been expected to make his debut for the Swans on Tuesday night at the beginning of a two-month loan spell but it was thought he had been ordered to produce a new work permit.

But Gillingham chairman Paul Scally has criticised the Welsh club for trying to change the deal after it had been agreed.

He told the club's official website: "I'm furious with them for not honouring their word, and Brent will be returning to Gillingham with immediate effect."

Sancho fell out of favour at Priestfield following his decision to join up with the Trinidad international team against club wishes.

Since then the defender, who signed a two year deal with the Gills in the summer, has had to make do with a place on the bench at best.
