Disallowed goal costs Wings

Hayes & Yeading 2 Welling 1

Welling's unbeaten start to the season came to an end in controversial circumstances at Church Road on Saturday.

The Wings had a goal disallowed 11 minutes from time which would have salvaged a point. Within 60 seconds of falling behind for the first time, Welling substitute Sol Pinnock got the better of Tom Cadmore and slotted home but referee Mick McCoy blew for a foul that only he could see.

The Wings had taken a 56th minute lead through Charlie Sheringham's penalty after Ellis Green was tripped in the box.

Less than two minutes later, Ryan Martin fluffed a simple chance to make it 2-0 and the Wings were made to pay.

A rash Lee Blackburn challenge presented Josh Scott with the chance to equalise from the penatly spot on 68 mintues and a terrible blunder by Wings keeper Jamie Turner with 12 minutes left allowed Stafforde Palmer to head Hayes in front.

It appeared the Wings had done enough to rescue a point before the officials had the last say.
