Farnborough 2 Welling 1
WELLING produced their worst performance of the season as they fell to their third defeat at Farnborough on Monday.
Fresh from a 5-1 victory over Yeading 48 hours earlier, the Wings were second best in every challenge and shipped in two more sloppy goals.
Although only bottom of the table after a 10-point deduction for going into administration, Farnborough should have still been brushed aside with ease.
Instead, the Wings were disjointed at best and there were question marks over their fitness as they seemed a yard off the pace.
Farnborough took a
15th-minute lead when Matt Pattison was allowed to run at the Wings defence and cross for the unmarked Paul Harkness to turn home from close range.
Welling still created chances to salvage something from a marginally improved second-half show.
Andrew Sam, handed his first start in place of the injured Che Stadhart, headed over on 55 minutes when it seemed easier to score and then substitute Matt Bodkin was denied by keeper Kevin Scriven.
Any hope of a point were ended with 11 minutes left when Steve Perkins failed to clear his lines and Harkness took advantage to bend the ball home.
There was still time for Welling substitute Akwasi Edusei to blaze straight at Scriven when sent clean through before the
Wings finally pulled one back in the 89th minute, Ellis Green nodding in Danny Kedwell’s left-wing cross.
Welling: Turner, Vines, Solomon, Boateng, Guest, Perkins, Carthy (Bodkin 57mins), Kedwell, Sam (Edusei 64mins), Green, Day. Subs not used: Goodfellow, Benjamin, Hyde.
Attendance: 439.
