Gillingham 3 Swansea City 1
GILLINGHAM'S excellent form continued on Saturday as they swept aside Swansea City at Priestfield to record their third straight League 1 win.
The home side went ahead on 15 minutes when the returning Danny Jackman collected a short corner before whipping a cross into defender Ian Cox, who finished well with his left-foot.
And it was double delight on the half hour mark when the dangerous Matt Jarvis put Gillingham 2-0 up.
Captain Mike Flynn's excellent pass found Jarvis who beat Izzy Iriekpen before firing superbly past Willy Gueret in the Swansea goal.
It was clearly Gillingham's day when Cox put the result beyond doubt in the 78th minute when he got his second goal of the afternoon.
Leon Knight scored a late consolation for the visitors but it was a fully deserved three points for Ronnie Jepson's men.
Earlier, Jarvis should have scored his second eight minutes into the second half but he shot over the bar when well placed. He later chose to shoot when he may have been better trying the square the ball to substitute Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu.
Swansea should have found a route back into the game early in the second half but Dennis Lawrence's close range header was off target.
Gillingham: Flinders, Jupp, Cox, Johnson, Jackman, Bentley, Crofts, Flynn, Easton, Jarvis, Mulligan (Ndbumbu-Nsungu 60).
Subs not used: Clohessy, Spiller, Pouton, McDonald.
