Gillingham's former goalscoring hero and caretaker manager Iffy Onuora has warned his old team of the dangers of League 2.

Onuora spent the final three months of last season as acting manager at Lincoln, while Peter Jackson underwent cancer treatment, and he knows all about life in the league’s basement division.

“Any club that comes down from League 1 will be seen as a big hit and a bit of a catch so teams will raise their game,” said Onuora. “Bradford found that last season.

“Anyone visiting a team with a nice set-up like Gillingham will go there and take a chance.

“Gillingham will like to think they will be in the shake-up but it will take a lot of hard work to be in it. It’s not an easy division, no division is, but there is something there for teams who are organised and have quality in the final third.”
