Gillingham assistant manager Scott Barrett insists fans shouldn’t be judging them yet.
The Gills have so far played five first team pre-season matches and managed only one win – against Kent League Faversham – but Barrett isn’t too worried about the lack of success.
"If you’re going through pre-season and beating teams comfortably then that’s nice but it’s by no means the be all and end all," said Barrett.
"I read a quote from Geraint Williams the Colchester manager and he said how they’ve had fantastic pre-seasons in the past and then had three or four games where they don’t win.
"You can have fantastic pre-season and be poor in the league. You can have a poor pre-season and be great in the league. It’s what happens at the start of the season that counts."
