Invicta Dynamos’ 4-1 win at Cardiff in the ENIHL South play-offs will stand, despite the club icing suspended playmaker Milan Kostolny during their semi-final first leg on Saturday evening.
The 33-year-old was believed to have served his three-match ban, and the EIHA went as far as clearing him to play, before reversing their decision on Sunday, much to the annoyance of everyone involved with the Gillingham-based club.
Invicta director Jackie Mason said: "We as a club are extremely disappointed and angry with the matter. We believe that we went through all the correct procedures and now feel that we have been penalised for an obvious lack of communication within the governing body.
"I believed that having an email in our possession from the EIHA chairman was good enough and that the decision was final. I have been strongly arguing our case but to no avail and have been told that the new decision will stand otherwise it will set a precedent for future games."
In response to events over the weekend, EIHA chairman Ken Taggart said: "The chairman (I) thought the disciplinary committee had been informed of the request to play off two suspension games in the Invicta versus Haringey double-point game.
"It has been found that they had not been consulted. The chairman was wrong in his decision to allow the player to play. The game is valid and the score will stand."
Although not effecting the rest of their play-off tilt, the decision rules Kostolny out of Invicta’s ENIHL Cup Final away leg in Sheffield on Saturday. Fellow suspended Slovak Martin Melichercik will now miss both legs of the final.
