Invicta Dynamos should find out on Friday what punishment, if any, the EIHA hand down to forwards Martin Melichercik and Milan Kostolny, after the Slovakian duo were thrown out of Sunday’s title-clinching game at Milton Keynes.
Invicta were crowned National League South champions for the sixth season running after the 6-0 win against the struggling Thunder but the fate of their two imports has since muted the celebrations.
Both players recorded points in the rout, before losing their cool in an ill-tempered encounter. Melichercik was adjudged a match penalty for crossing checking in the first period and Kostolny received the same award for kicking, minutes after assisting Elliot Andrews’ final goal of the game.
“We’ll probably find out on Friday afternoon what the league have decided to do,” said head coach Kevin Parrish.
“Both players will miss this weekend’s game at Oxford because of the automatic suspension for a match penalty and probably another one for going over 10 penalty points. Whether they miss any more games will go down to what the referee puts in his report.
“I don’t want to be going into the cup final with Sheffield or the play-offs without my imports. We could deal with them missing the final three league games but any more than that would be a big blow.”
Originally, Invicta were in discussions to play their final league game against Haringey on March 15 as a double-points encounter, due to the lack of ice time available. But with the threat of suspensions hanging over their imports, the club has since changed its mind.
“If we played the game as a double header then it would only class as missing one game if you are suspended,” added Parrish. Adam Copland, Tim Smith and Jamie Dancey are all struggling with injuries.
