Dynamos keep cup final hopes alive

Invicta Dynamos Invicta Dynamos remain in contention for a place in the ENIHL Cup Final after a 2-2 draw with Sheffield Spartans in their semi-final first leg at the Gillingham Ice Bowl.

After an even first 20 minutes, Sheffield began to boss the game in the second period.

Invicta’s Anthony Leone was called for roughing at 21.41 and Sheffield’s Matt Haywood scored via the crossbar on the man advantage.

Sheffield continued to dominate, but were kept at bay by Ian Rowlands in the Dynamos’ goal.

Then, with less than a minute to play in the second, A.J Smith picked out Andy Smith, who found the back of the Sheffield net to tie the game at 1-1.

Another Sheffield powerplay effort, from Richie Oliver, made it 2-1 at 46.12, before Anthony Lennon grabbed a powerplay equaliser with eight minutes to go.

The second leg at Ice Sheffield has yet to be arranged, leaving next weekend as the two leg South Decider against the Peterborough Islanders.
