A WIN on Sunday against Peterborough Islanders will be enough to crown the Gillingham-based Invicta Dynamos the English National Hockey League (South) champions.
It will come just two seasons after the Mos won the English National Premier League and is a huge boost for the club whose fortunes dipped when they lost their main sponsor last June.
The club lost the battle for ENPL survival when Kelly Cartons didn’t renew their two-year sponsorship deal.
The team could not afford to keep their expensive import players and were forced to drop a league and start rebuilding using British amateurs from the feeder team, the Mustangs.
The move looks to have paid off, with fans hoping for another night of title celebrations at the Ice Bowl.
Player-coach Phil Chard said: “This game is not a foregone conclusion but we have a good chance of winning and taking the title.
“It would make it a great if we had a full house. It would be another special moment for Medway ice hockey.”
Following on from the recent acquisition of 21-year-old forward Karl Lennon, a second new face will be in the starting line-up after the Mos signed Jamie Smith on Tuesday.
He iced 38 times for the Medway Bears as a junior and for the Invicta Dynamos in the 98/99 season and returns to action after breaking his kneecap in a car accident.
The Mos survived a mini scare last weekend when they beat Basingstoke Buffalo 3-2.
