GILLINGHAM defender Roland Edge has left Priestfield after failing to agree a new contract (Jason Kayley writes).
Edge was offered a fresh contract but had been seeking a different deal and is now free to look for another club after being released on a free.
Edge, 24, a product of club’s youth system, made 125 appearances, scoring just one goal.
Chairman Paul Scally told the club’s official website: “It’s unfortunate, we simply could not agree terms. Roland has been a fantastic player and has helped us get to where we are today. We wish him all the best.”
This would seem to pave the way for Blackpool defender John Hills to fill the vacant left-back slot.
Hills, 25, is available on a free and was at Priestfield last week for talks with chairman Paul Scally. The former Everton player is due back in the next couple of days for further discussions.
He said: “I have nothing concrete lined up but am looking to move to a bigger club, maybe in a higher division. That is my ambition.”
