CHARLTON fans attending the end-of-season international tournament at The Valley will not have the opportunity to see Jason Euell after the club’s record signing ruled out making his debut for Jamaica in the near future.

But he has left the door open for a possible conversion to the Reggae Boyz by saying he will make a decision about his international future after the summer break.

Jamaica, the Republic of Ireland and Nigeria are due to contest the Unity Cup at the end of May in what will be the first ever senior international hosted by Charlton.

But although Euell has been approached by the Caribbean side’s football authorities, he has delayed a decision about whether to join club colleagues Kevin Lisbie and Jamal Campbell-Ryce in the Jamaica set-up.

“At this point in time I feel I am unable to give the Jamaican Football Federation a definite answer,” said the 27-year-old, who has endured a stop-start season following several niggling injuries and a dispute with manager Alan Curbishley following his red card against Manchester United in September.

Although those problems are now over, Euell wants more time to consider his next move.

He added: “I have promised to reconsider their invitation after discussing the situation further with Charlton. Then I will let the relevant people know my decision after the summer break.”

A £4.75m capture from Wimbledon in 2001, Euell has represented England at youth level and has six under-21 caps, but under new FIFA rules would still qualify to play for Jamaica through his father.

The Reggae Boyz will play Nigeria and the Republic of Ireland - expected to include Charlton captain Matt Holland - at The Valley on May 31 and June 2.

And while Euell seems certain to miss those matches, it will be interesting to see if he makes his mind up before Jamaica begin their World Cup qualification campaign with a double-header against Haiti in mid-June.

Meanwhile, Kevin Lisbie completed more than an hour in his comeback game as Charlton’s championship-winning reserve season ended with a 0-0 draw against West Ham on Monday.
