KENT'S former world champion Johnny Armour will make a decision on his future in boxing in the next few weeks.

The 38-year-old, from Chatham, says he is searching his soul to decide whether to push for a title or hang up his gloves for good.

Armour, who once held the WBU bantamweight title as well as European and Commonwealth belts, hasn’t fought since beating Jamaican Delroy Spencer on points at York Hall, Bethnal Green, last February.

But he has stepped up his training again recently and is considering an offer from promoter Frank Maloney to have a warm-up fight in September, with a possible British title belt to follow.

He said: "I’m in two minds what to do. Obviously I’m 38 and not getting any younger. But there’s part of me that feels I’ve got two or three good fights left in me.

"I don’t want to get to a point six months down the line and have regrets that I didn’t give it one more go. I am down the gym nearly every day to keep things ticking over.

"But what I need to decide in the next few weeks is whether I’ve got the heart and desire to get back in the ring again."

to be sooner rather than later.

He added: "Frank Maloney told me I don’t have a lot of time to make a decision. If I do decide to retire, I know I can look back on my boxing career and the belts I won with pride."
